Dosh

What do you get when you take the heads of a leading product design firm and tell them to come up with the next generation wallet? Well the Dosh All-Polymer Wallet of course. Designed by Spaile and Mark Armstrong of BlueSky Design Group based in Sydney, the Dosh wallet is truly a work of well thought out simplicity. Of course the fact that it doesn't look like your Dad's old worn-edged brown leather version sure helps sell it as well.

Dosh was founded in 2006, and the first range of products were launched to the world in July 2007. BlueSky Design Group is one of Australia’s leading product design companies and have produced many global products for some very famous household brands. The company is best known for the design of the Olympic Torch for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and more recently for the design of the next generation of trains for the Sydney rail network. Building Dosh was really a passion play for them and we think it has paid off.

We had a chance to talk to one of the team members at Dosh, Henri Spaile, about the company's methodology, process, and growth strategies.

Most designers can trace their design philosophy back to a particular influence whether it is a particular designer or a need they saw unfulfilled, what would you say was the real influence for your company?

“For our designs we are always looking to combine latest materials and technologies with the changing needs and lifestyles of society. A wallet has traditionally been stitched from leather for thousands of years. New technologies, materials and design thinking has resulted in the Dosh wallet, which is the next generation of personal money storage.”

What is your company's stance on using organic, sustainable, fair trade, and recycled goods?

“Dosh embraces stepping lightly on the environment in all of our operations and products. The Dosh wallet is designed for disassembly and recycling, as is the packaging. And no animals were harmed in its production!”

If you could change something about the apparel industry from a business perspective what would it be?

“We like the idea of selling direct to our consumers, and using less links in the chain from manufacturer to consumer. We want to make the buying experience easier and more fun for the consumer- to continually surprise and delight.”

What do you guys have planned for the near future, should we be looking for some cool new things soon?

“We are in the midst of designing a new innovative marketing campaign- stay tuned… This year, we are also expanding the product range with some innovative new products and building the brand globally, how it is accepted we’ll just have to wait and see. ”

After seeing what BlueSky is capable of, we are certainly looking forward to seeing what is coming next. If you are need of a wallet, then look no further. It is great for traveling as it can handle a US dollar or a Euro and it is waterproof. Oh, and get the orange, you will get a ton of compliments.
